Wildlife Reserves of Nepal

Wildlife Reserve of Nepal Complete amidst lofty mountains and limitless plain, Nepal has got a rich fauna and flora. According to a conservative estimate, Nepal has as many as 100 different kinds of mammals and at least 750 kinds of birds in totality. Due to its industrial backwardness, Nepal has limited industries. That is why Nepal's rich fauna and flora is not under grave threat as in some of its neighboring countries such as China and India. Nevertheless, rampant poaching and massive deforestations made the government mull the plan for establishing dedicated wildlife reserves. The idea was pondered upon and was put to action. This led to the birth of Royal Chitwan National Park. The park is located between the Shivaliks and is the most popular wildlife sanctuary in Nepal. It has nearly 50 different varieties of mammals and 450 species of birds. Sal is the most prominent tree of this sanctuary. If you are fed up of regular wildlife sanctuaries them Sagarmatha National Park is here for your rescue. Located above 9000 feet, The Sagarmatha National Park is the highest wildlife reserve in the world. With its snow pecked peaks and vibrant species of Himalayan birds, this park can be safely adjudged the most beautiful location in the entire Nepal.

Sukla Phanta Wildlife Reserve

Sukla Phanta Wildlife ReserveThis wildlife reserve is situated in the extreme south-west of Nepal. The name of the park is derived from the largest of these grasslands which is known as Sukla Phanta. The park area is 155 sq km. and would-be 305 sq kms. After the completion of its extension. Sukla Phanta's grassland is one of the last remaining habitats for such threatened animals as the hispid hare and the pygmy hog. Besides these, Sukla Phanta is the stronghold for another endangered animal, the barasingha, or swamp deer.

Parsa Wildlife Reserve

Parsa Wildlife ReserveParsa wildlife reserve occupies parts of Chitwan, Makawanpur, Parsa and Bara districts in central Nepal. The reserve headquarters is situated at Adabar on the Hetauda-Birgunj highway and the Reserve covers 499sq. kms. and established in 1984.The dominat landscape of the reserve, the Churiya hills ranging from 750m. to 950m. Run east-west of the reserve. The reserve has sub-tropical monsoon climate. The forest is composed of tropical to subtropical forest types with sal constituting 90% of the vegetation.

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve

Koshi Tappu Wildlife ReserveKoshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve lies on the flood plains of the sapta-koshi in Saptari and sunsari districts of eastern Nepal. The reserve covers 175sq. kms and was established in 1976.Rapid and complete inundation of the reserve to depths ranging from 10 to 300 cm. occurs during the monsoon. The sapta-koshi river also changes its course from one season to another. The vegetation is mainly tall Khar-grassland with a few patches of Khair-sisso, scrub forest and deciduous mixed riverine forest.The reserve offers important habitat for a variety of wildlife.
